I too am finding it hard to find links to my family name of Foster.
Have you had any success?

Was Stonegarthside the family seat?
I am also Foster with relatives surnames of other riding famalies.
Were you able to establish a link to Bamburgh?
Help appreciated.

Hobbie Noble, celebrated in Border Ballad, was a real person who came from Bewcastle in the late 16th century. I suspect your grandfather is from the same stock ! Proving a family link with specific reivers is very difficult for most as 17th century evidence is very hard to find. My oldest known Armstrong ancestor was born about 30 years after the end of the reiving era and I haven't been able to make the connection.

I find i am a Robson through a line that came into North Yorkshire. `A Francis Robson from Husthwaite who married a Patience Storry daughter of Edwards Storry from Kirkby Knowle. Francis grandfather was Guilielmi Robson 1699c married to a Elizabeth Monkaster. On another line of Robsons married into Pinders of Bridlington. These Robson from Burnside leading back to Hexham a John Robson 1510c wife Enid. So i truly am steeped in these Border families. I must take a DNA test. Trying to find out all I can about links to these families..

I have just found this article and thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m a Wilkinson and my family farmed at Threlkeld from at least 1780. I’m struggling to find BMDs before then as there are so many Wilkinsons in the Wigton, Greystoke area! I have often wondered how they came upon a farm. Maybe it was unlawful behaviour or a question of ‘who you know’. I’d definitely be interested in knowing more about the clannis. Where should I look?
